PSP Opened up?

So if i'm going to grant 'permanent in-manbag' status to my PSP, I want to be able to squeeze all sorts of goodies onto it.

Right now, armies of devious hackers are working on how to allow the installation of all kinds of apps on on the US firmware 1.50. If all goes well, on June 15 (Spanish time), the PSP-Dev team will release their homebrew installer.

So what? Suddenly my two UMD games are joined by legions of retro gaming hits like Galaga, Xevious, Super Nintendo Cricket, Mario Bros etc. And of course, just around the corner are all sorts of apps waiting to be compiled and distributed - RSS readers, chat, browsers, word doc readers etc. Like everyone else, I keep wondering why Sony don't just start it this way. An open platform mobile device? get out of here - where's the fun in that?

UPDATE: If the PSP-Dev team site is down, check for updates at ps2nfo.com. They are currently hosting this clip of a SNES emulator running on the v1.50 firmware.

That's interesting... On June 15th (Australian Time), the Webpage at the link has been "suspended". What's the conspiracy here you think???

For one, we'll have to wait until it's June 15 in that part of the world. The 'suspension' could be the mass of salivating PSP owners hitting the cheap host, or worse (Sony intervention). I would presume the former.
