The Little Hours

Kirsten has just brought Dorothy Parker to my attention. I had only vaguely heard of her, but yesterday I read a very funny/insightful short story about insomnia called "The Little Hours" (copy and paste the text into Word and make it black so you can read it). If you ever lie awake at night wondering why you are awake, and knowing that the wondering is contributing to you being awake, and then wondering about that (and so forth to 7am..), you'll appreciate this.

Ms. Parker was also known as being incredibly quotable. Her pearlers include:

"Brevity is the soul of lingerie"
"If all the girls at Yale were laid end to end, I wouldn't be at all surprised"
"Miss Hepburn runs the gamut of emotions from A to B"

and my personal favourite:

"I've been too fucking busy, and vice versa"
